Dynamics Of Sexual Violence In India

  • NCRB(National crime rate bureau) amidst widespread protest against the Hathras rape case released the data on rape cases according to which 87 rape cases were reported daily in 2019 which increased by 7% from 2017.
  • Which in other words is rape reports in every 15 minutes
  • In India caste system is deeply rooted in peripheries of life. In villages womens belonging to the backward class are economically, socially and culturally vulnerable and data showed rape being used a tool during caste and class conflict by upper caste to crush there voices of to seek revenge.

Justice System

The Majority of Sexual Assaults Are Not Reported to the Police

Only 230 out of every 1,000 sexual assaults are reported to police. That means about 3 out of 4 go unreported.

  • Individuals of college-age
    • Female Students: 20% report
    • Female Non-Students: 32% report
  • The elderly: 28% report
  • Members of the military: 43% of female victims and 10% of male victims reported.

Culprits Mentality

Above data evidently shows what boils in the culprit’s mind when such a henoius crime is being committed on caste prejudice, gender superiority, women’s objectification. I beleive This whole structure is rooted from the molding age of life where patriarchal setup allow them to boast their gender superiority. Its where our education system fails when teacher seldom skips the topics of sex education or often covers part for academics importance. Culturally women’s staged in differently from her counterpart. Economically in majority of the scenarios men is the breadwinner for the house which leave the women with little choices in life.
